RTD celebrates Winter Bike to Work Day

On the second Friday in February, cyclists around the world gear up for a winter bike ride to work. This year, RTD participated in the international Winter Bike to Work Day event by cheering bike riders as they pedaled through Civic Center Park in Downtown Denver. Also in attendance were partners from the Denver Regional Council of Governments and various departments from the city and county of Denver. Because the weather averaged about 17 degrees during most of the event, bike riders were treated to cocoa, coffee, breakfast burritos and other goodies by station organizers. RTD provided lip balms and neck warmers, as well as information about combining transit with biking trips.

RTD supports biking as an alternative to driving. Many Park-n-Rides have bicycle parking. In 2022, two new secure shelters opened along the US36 corridor. RTD’s buses have a front rack that can carry up to two bicycles, and regional buses can carry up to six additional bikes in the cargo holds. Trains have either designated spots for holding bicycles or hooks to store them during the ride. In November 2022, RTD introduced a new e-bike policy that allows (with some restrictions) e-bikes on trains and buses.
