RTD Gives: school supply drive to support local students
Every student deserves the opportunity to succeed in school, but for many families, the cost of basic school supplies can be a burden. To help bridge this gap, RTD is launching a school supply drive through its RTD Gives initiative. In partnership with the local nonprofit A Precious Child and its “Fill A Backpack program”, RTD aims to help students become equipped with the essential tools they need to learn, grow, and thrive in the classroom. This effort builds on the agency’s commitment to youth through the Zero Fare for Youth program, which allows individuals 19 and under to ride RTD services at no cost.
Community members can contribute by donating new school supplies at designated RTD locations. Items such as backpacks, notebooks, pencils, markers, and other classroom necessities are in high demand.
Donations will be accepted from Monday, June 23 through Friday, July 26 with drop-off locations available at the following stations:
- Downtown Boulder Station
- Denver Union Station
- Civic Center Station
- Denver Airport Station
RTD employees will be contributing to the effort and the agency will host a collection event at Denver Union Station on Saturday, July 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Just as public transportation is a crucial resource for students to be able to get to school and have equal access to education, the supplies and equipment needed for learning in the classroom are equally essential for a child’s success,” Eric Gleason, President and CEO of A Precious Child said. “Together, we can help lower the barriers to education and continue to make an impact in the lives of those in our community who need our help the most.”RTD thanks customers and the community for taking part in this effort to help make a difference in a students’ lives.
For those unable to donate school supplies in person, online contributions can be made here.
