RTD to resume normal light rail service along the Southeast Corridor ahead of the holidays following necessary repairs to Yale light rail bridge
DENVER (Dec. 22, 2025) ––The Regional Transportation District (RTD)will once again operate light rail trains on both sets of track and resume 15-minute service frequencies along the Southeast Corridor beginning Tuesday afternoon. The resumption of regular service on Dec. 23 follows approximately four weeks of emergency repairs to the Yale Street bridge. The structure was damaged when a fuel tanker crashed into the bridge’s retaining wall on Thanksgiving.
The E and H lines have been temporarily operating on a modified schedule during RTD’s emergency design efforts and repairs to the light rail bridge.
The non-RTD crash resulted in light rail trains only able to operate over one set of tracks on the bridge. RTD utilized a two-phase restoration strategy, which prioritized structural repairs to accelerate restoration of service even sooner than initially anticipated. Crews have fully inspected the bridge and plan to test light rail trains Tuesday afternoon, with a goal of resuming service around 3 p.m. Trains will then operate normal schedules while non-critical aesthetic work that remains is performed.
RTD Deputy Chief Executive Officer Angel Peña underscored the agency’s commitment to delivering a safe, convenient, and comfortable experience for all customers. “Following the tanker crash on Thanksgiving, our team focused not only on making repairs, but on ensuring a safe and efficient return to service for the customers who depend on us every day,” Peña said. “With all safety-critical repairs and inspections now complete, I am proud to announce that rail service on the E and H lines will officially resume. We remain committed to transparency as we complete the remaining aesthetic work, all while keeping your commute moving forward.”
At approximately 1 p.m. on Nov. 27, the fuel tanker crashed into the Yale Street bridge in Denver. The tanker was the only vehicle involved, and the crash resulted in fuel being spilled on the roadway. Multiple agencies and emergency personnel responded to the accident, and light rail service was immediately suspended in the area. The Yale Station was temporarily closed immediately following the crash but reopened to customers the following day.
