RTD’s W Line will be impacted by Xcel Energy’s planned power shutoff on Friday
Agency’s website, Service Alerts, and social media channels provide operational updates and service impacts
DENVER (Dec. 18, 2025) –– The Regional Transportation District (RTD) will adjust W Line rail services on Friday, Dec. 19, when Xcel Energy initiates a planned Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) in select parts of the Denver metro area.
The power shutoff will impact W Line service between Federal Center Station and JeffCo Gov’t Center•Golden Station. Similar to RTD's operations on Wednesday, Dec. 17, a bus shuttle will be deployed during the power shutoff between the impacted stations along the W Line. Additionally, lighting, ticket vending machines, and fare validators at the JeffCo Gov’t Center•Golden Station will not be operational during the shutoff. RTD’s service impacts are related to the location of the agency’s traction power substations, which supply electrical power to the rail system.
RTD will monitor operating conditions and weather reports across the Denver metro area. If warranted, additional service adjustments will be made to support the safety of customers and employees. Customers should plan ahead and sign up for Service Alerts or visit RTD’s website, Next Ride app, or social media accounts. Customer Care agents are also available to assist with trip planning by calling 303.299.6000.
