RailService Disruption

Scheduled work to affect RTD downtown light rail service Dec. 13-22

RTD will perform necessary maintenance that will affect light rail service on the D, H and L lines from Tuesday, Dec. 13, through Thursday, Dec. 22.

Crews will repair a section of rail at the intersection of 19th and Stout streets that was installed 28 years ago as part of the D Line or Central Corridor Line, which is RTD’s oldest operating line. The rail has experienced some settling due to heavy usage by an increasing amount of train and vehicular traffic.

Construction vehicles, delivery vans and cars have become heavier, exacting an increasing toll on the roadway surface and track structure over time. Light rail train traffic has also dramatically increased in the area. Tracks that initially carried just the D Line now also see trains for the H and L lines.

The work will require full closure of Stout Street between 18th and 20th streets, and full closure of 19th Street between Champa and California streets. Bus Routes 38, 42, 44 and RX will detour around street closures.

During the work, the D and H lines will not operate north of Theatre District•Convention Center Station and the L Line will suspend operations. L Line customers can explore bus Route 43 as an alternative.

Regular service on the D, H and L lines is scheduled to resume Friday, Dec. 23.

Multiple bus routes serve the affected area, and customers are encouraged to use RTD’s Trip Planner to explore alternate routes and options while closures and detours are in effect.
