Bike to Work Day celebrates cycling, community, and transit connections
Thousands of residents across metro Denver are expected to swap four wheels for two on Wednesday, June 24 for Bike to Work Day. The annual event brings together cyclists, businesses, local governments, and transportation partners to celebrate the connection between bicycling, community, and sustainable transportation.
According to the Denver Regional Council of Governments (DRCOG), this year's Bike to Work Day includes more than 260 rider appreciation stations where cyclists can stop for snacks, giveaways, music, and other activities during their morning commute. RTD and DRCOG will be at Denver Union Station to connect with cyclists and promote the benefits of combining biking and transit. Representatives from both organizations will be at the station's North Plaza, near Wynkoop Street, beginning at 6 a.m. to answer questions and share information about transportation options across the region.
For many RTD customers, biking and transit already go hand-in-hand. A short bike ride to a stop or station can make it easier to reach destinations across the region while reducing traffic congestion and parking challenges. Customers planning to participate in Bike to Work Day can bring bikes aboard most RTD buses and trains or use Bike-n-Ride shelters available at many stations. Whether traveling entirely by bike or incorporating transit into the trip, the event offers an opportunity to explore new commuting options and enjoy a different way of getting around metro Denver.
The event also builds on recent work by RTD and community partners to encourage active transportation. Earlier this month, Colorado History Rides, DRCOG, and RTD hosted a community bike ride between Clear Creek•Federal Station and Wheat Ridge•Ward Station. Participants traveled along Clear Creek and Ralston Creek trails while learning about Arvada's transportation history, from horse‑drawn buggies and streetcars to today’s commuter rail system.
Customers are encouraged to pledge to ride, map their route, and locate a rider appreciation station before heading out on June 24. Information about bringing bikes on RTD vehicles, bike parking at stations, and regional Bike to Work Day resources, including rider stations and pledge options, is available through RTD’s Bike‑n‑Ride webpage and DRCOG’s Way to Go program.
